Our Story

Soropimist International (SI) is a global volunteer movement formed in 1921 that works to transform the lives of women and girls.

With around 72,000 club members in 121 countries, SI works at a local, national and international level to Educate, Empower & Enable opportunities for women and girls.

The governing body of Soroptimist International (SI) as it is today was formed in 1952.

Currenly, SI consists of 5 federations each corresponding to a geographical region:

SI of the Americas (SIA),
SI Europe (SIE),
SI Great Britain & Ireland (SIGBI),
South West Pacific (SISWP),
SI Africa Federation (SIAF).

Clubs

The creation of the SI Africa Federation (SIAF) was officially inaugurated by the President of Soroptimist International 2020 - 2021, Sharon Fisher at the Soroptimist International Annual General Meeting (SIAGM) on 30 June 2020.

SIAF is currently comprised of 4 regions:

Nothern Region,
Eastern Region (Kenya falls here),
West & Central Region,
Southern Region.

Clubs

In 1979 the first Soroptimist International Club was chartered in Nairobi. Beldina Simba was the Charter President.

In 1996, Soropimist International Kenya Country (SIKC) which is the governing SI body in Kenya was formed.

Over the years, the growth of SI clubs in Kenya has remained steady, with the count currently standing at 13.

Soropimist International Club of Vihiga (SIV) was chartered in Kenya on the 7th of March 2020.

Maximillar A. Luchacha was the club's charter President, and Juliet Wamiri the charter officer (on behalf of Shoshi Frenkel).
